The Gulf Stream Drifter
A true story,
Written by the Mix Class of '95
He drifted into town, kind of quiet and shy,
Not too tall. He was a brown skinned guy.
At first it seemed he had all the right stuff,
his dive gear, his training,
but it just wasn't enough.
He went for a dive, deep on gas was the plan,
but when he got to the bottom
no buddies, no wreck, nothing but sand!
When he hit the surface the current had started to run.
There was wind, rain and thunder.
This afternoon would not be fun!
The first boat came by, they all ran to the side.
They yelled "Are you all right?
Get in, we'll give you a ride!"
The boat was big as he looked up and down.
Then he said "No thanks, with all this gear,
I think I'll just drift around".
Boat number two, smaller and fast,
saw his red sausage,
and pulled him in at last.
The ride back was full of talk, jokes and beer
even though he still had on some of his gear.
Captain Roger thought "Oh, what the heck,
I'll lash the Drifter down to the deck".
Back at the dock with the fisherman and the gear,
we all thought "How lucky he had been,
and through it all he showed no fear".
The Gulf Stream Drifter was last seen turning around,
loading gear into his green Lincoln
and drifting out of town.
Terry got the message first from those hanging below
Roger got in on the search - then the radio
The fishermen showed up and returned Ted
Roger lashed the drifter down good to avoid a reoccurance
